The Head of the Department (HoD) plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the department and contributing to the overall success of the Rathinam Technical Campus. HoD will be responsible for overseeing the effective management and development of the department. Their role involves providing strong leadership to faculty, Lab Instructor, and students, fostering a conducive learning environment, and promoting research and innovation in engineering disciplines. Prior work experience as an Associate Professor or a similar job role will be an added advantage for the candidate. Moreover, you should have excellent communication skills and the ability to manage students efficiently. You should also possess outstanding time management skills and good organizational skills. Key Responsibilities :

  1. Academic Policy Development and Implementation:
  • As the Head of Department (HoD), one of the primary responsibilities is to develop and implement academic policies, programs, and curriculum that align with industry standards       and accreditation requirements. 
  • This involves designing courses that are relevant, up-to-date, and meet the needs of the job market, ensuring that students receive a quality education that prepares them for professional success.
  • Additionally, the HoD collaborates with faculty members to ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement of these academic initiatives.
  1. Faculty Requirement Submission Process:
  • HoDs submit faculty requirements to the Vice Principal for the department to address staffing needs and maintain the department’s academic excellence.
  • The process involves assessing faculty workload, identifying vacancies, and justifying the need for new faculty based on factors like student enrollment and research projects.
  • Once approved, the recruitment process begins to find suitable candidates for the faculty positions.
  1. Faculty Subject Allocation and Workload Submission Process:
  • HoDs allocate subjects to faculty members based on their expertise and qualifications, and upon approval from the Vice Principal Academics, the faculty members submit their respective workloads to the academic office.
  • This process ensures a well-balanced and organized distribution of teaching responsibilities before the commencement of classes.
  1. Timetable Submission Process:

       Before the commencement of classes, HoDs submit the class and master timetables to the         Vice Principal for approval, ensuring they adhere to the specified timing requirements.

 

  1. Course Material and Resources

         Before the commencement of classes, HoDs verify the Lesson plan, course material, Question bank, video links, and lab manuals with benchmark readings to ensure the content meets the required standards and is ready for use during the course.

  1. Faculty Peer Review Process for Surprise Class Visits
  • In the Faculty Peer Review process of surprise class visits by HoD, faculty members undergo unannounced classroom evaluations to assess their teaching performance.
  • These surprise visits aim to provide constructive feedback, promote teaching excellence, and ensure continuous improvement in the quality of education delivered by the faculty.
  1. Classroom Observations:
  • In the Class Rounds conducted by the HoD, the faculty members’ teaching performance is observed during the first hour, after the break, and after lunch.
  • These periodic observations aim to assess teaching methodologies, student engagement, and overall classroom dynamics, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and maintaining teaching standards within the department.
  1. Student Discipline and Attendance:
  • In the role of monitoring student discipline and attendance, the HoD oversees the implementation of disciplinary policies, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
  • They track and analyze student attendance records, addressing any attendance-related issues, and take appropriate measures to promote academic engagement and student success.
  1. Student Support:
  • Address student concerns, grievances, attendance and disciplinary matters in collaboration with Dean – Student Affairs.
  • Facilitate Core training, co-curricular and extracurricular activities to enhance students’ overall development.
  1. Faculty Development:
  • The HoD plays a pivotal role in encouraging faculty members to participate in professional development activities, research endeavors, and seek patents and publications. This support fosters a culture of continuous learning and promotes faculty members’ career advancement and contributions to academia and innovation.
  • To create a thriving learning environment, the HoD facilitates workshops, seminars, Faculty Development Programs (FDP), and conferences, providing opportunities for faculty to enhance their teaching skills, share knowledge, and collaborate with peers. These initiatives promote intellectual growth, networking, and knowledge dissemination within the department.
  • Head of the Department providing mentorship to faculty members for tutoring.
  1. Research and Innovation:
  • Through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), the HoD actively collaborates with industry partners and research institutions to foster meaningful research collaborations and explore funding opportunities.
  • These established connections provide faculty members with access to valuable resources, expertise, and funding, empowering them to undertake impactful research projects that bridge the gap between academia and industry.
  • As a result, these endeavors contribute to advancements in the field and address real-world challenges
  1. Document Verification and Submission Process:
  • HoD verifies and consolidates various student-related data, including attendance records, logbooks, master attendance, proctorial cards, course files, department’s academic performance and Examination results.
  • Once reviewed and approved by the HoD, these records are then submitted to the academic office for further processing and official documentation, following approval from the Vice Principal.
  • This comprehensive procedure ensures accurate and up-to-date student information is maintained, contributing to effective academic management and administrative operations.
  1. IQAC Related Documents and ERP Details:
  • In this process, the HoD verifies the relevant documents and files related to the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • After thorough verification, the HoD submits the approved materials to the appropriate authorities, ensuring compliance with quality standards and efficient management of institutional data and resources to be submitted and get approval from Director IQAC.
  1. Departmental Budget Management and Resource Allocation:
  • HoD is responsible for managing departmental budgets, resource allocation, and overseeing infrastructure and laboratory requirements.
  • This entails careful planning, efficient allocation of funds, and ensuring that the necessary resources and facilities are available to support the academic and research needs of the department effectively to be submitted and get approval from Head office affairs.
  1. Alumni Relations:
  • The HoD takes an active role in fostering positive relationships with alumni, emphasizing their importance in supporting the department’s initiatives.
  • By encouraging alumni involvement and mentoring current students, a strong and supportive network is created, benefiting both the department and its students in their personal and professional growth.
  1. Promoting Community Outreach and Social Responsibility:
  • The HoD plays a vital role in promoting the department’s active engagement in community outreach and social responsibility initiatives.
  • By encouraging faculty and students to participate in meaningful activities that benefit the local community, the department strengthens its connection with society and contributes positively to the greater good.
  1. Departmental Meeting Management and MOM Submission:
  • HoDs organize regular departmental meetings for faculty members to discuss important matters, following the discussions in HoDs meetings.
  • After each meeting, the HoD prepares Minutes of Meeting (MOM) summarizing the key points and decisions made, which are then submitted to the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Vice Principal Academics for documentation and review.
  • This ensures effective communication and transparency in departmental affairs, contributing to the overall quality enhancement of the academic institution.
  1. KPI:
  • In this process, the HoD conducts monthly verification and evaluation of faculty Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • After assessing individual faculty KPIs, the HoD consolidates the department’s faculty KPI details and submits them to the academic office.
  • This ensures ongoing monitoring of faculty performance and contributes to overall academic excellence within the department.
  1. KRA:
  • Once a year, the HoD verifies and evaluates the faculty’s Key Result Areas (KRA). After assessing individual faculty KRAs, the HoD consolidates the department’s faculty KRA details and submits them to the academic office.
  • This annual evaluation process ensures a comprehensive assessment of faculty performance and contributes to the department’s continuous improvement and success.
  1. Maintenance of HoD Files in the Department:
  • In the department, the HoD is responsible for maintaining various files to ensure smooth operations and effective management. These files include:
  • Circular File: Contains important circulars and communications received or issued by the HoD.
  • MoM File (Minutes of Meetings File): Stores the minutes of various meetings conducted by the HoD, documenting decisions and discussions.
  • Timetable File: Holds records of departmental timetables, ensuring proper scheduling of classes and faculty assignments.
  • Workload File: Contains information on faculty workloads and distribution of teaching responsibilities.
  • Programs and Events File: Stores details about departmental events, seminars, workshops, and programs organized by the HoD.
  • Faculty Profile File: Contains comprehensive profiles of faculty members, including academic qualifications, teaching experience, and research activities.
  • Students External and Internal Participation File: Keeps track of students’ participation in external competitions, conferences, and internal events organized by the department.
  • Research File: Contains records of ongoing research projects, publications, and grants obtained by the department and faculty members.
  • Budget File: Maintains financial records and budgetary information related to departmental expenditures and resources.
  • Result Analysis File: Contains data and reports related to the analysis of examination results, academic performance of students, and trends over time.
  • Library File: Contains relevant records and documents related to the department’s library resources and activities.

The systematic maintenance of these files ensures efficient record-keeping, easy retrieval of information, and assists in decision-making processes within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A Ph.D. (or) Master’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.

  •  Significant teaching and research experience in the field of engineering.

  • Previous administrative or leadership experience in an academic setting.

  •  Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff,
    students, and external stakeholders.

The Lab Instructor plays a crucial role in the educational process by supporting and enhancing the practical learning experience of students. The primary responsibility of the Lab Instructor is to assist in the management and operation of laboratory facilities within the department

Key Responsibilities :

1. Lab Management: The Lab Instructor is responsible for the proper functioning and organization of the lab. They ensure that all equipment, tools, and materials required for practical experiments are available and in good working condition.


2. Demonstrations: The Lab Instructor conducts demonstrations and provides hands-on training to students on various engineering concepts and experiments. They explain procedures, safety guidelines, and assist students in conducting experiments effectively.


3. Student Guidance: Lab Instructors offer guidance and support to students during lab sessions. They address students’ questions, clarify doubts, and encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills.


4. Safety Compliance: Ensuring safety protocols are strictly adhered to is paramount for a Lab Instructor. They oversee safety measures in the lab, enforce safety rules, and provide guidance on handling hazardous materials and equipment.


5. Equipment Maintenance: Lab Instructors are responsible for maintaining and calibrating lab equipment regularly. They promptly report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the Lab Incharge / Department Heads.


6. Lab Cleanliness and Display: The Lab Instructor holds the responsibility for maintaining lab cleanliness. They are also in charge of ensuring the proper arrangement and maintenance of display boards within the lab.


7. Record Keeping: Accurate record-keeping is essential. Lab Instructors maintain stock register, maintenance register, Service register, Student and faculty entry register and Invoice file.


8. Collaborate with Faculty: They work closely with faculty to align lab activities with the curriculum, provide feedback on lab sessions, and suggest improvements to enhance the learning experience.


9. Supervision: During lab sessions, the Lab Instructor supervises students to ensure they are using equipment correctly and performing experiments safely.


10. Assist in Research: Depending on the college’s research activities, Lab Instructors may also support faculty in their research projects by assisting with data collection, analysis, and other research-related tasks.


11. Students Attendance: During exam time, lab instructors are responsible for diligently collecting students’ attendance to ensure accurate records and compliance with examination protocols.


12. Answer Scripts Readiness: Lab instructors meticulously ensure the readiness of answer scripts for practical exams, guaranteeing a smooth and organized assessment process. They verify all necessary details and prepare the scripts for evaluation in a timely manner.


13. File Maintenance: Lab instructors diligently maintain files in the department, ensuring proper organization and easy accessibility of important documents and records. They take responsibility for file management to support efficient administrative processes.

  • A Diploma’s degree in an engineering discipline or a related field.

  1. Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the academic department to design and update the engineering curriculum, incorporating the latest advancements in the respective field. Strive to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of the courses offered.

  2. Lesson Plan: Unit-wise lesson plans are meticulously prepared by the teaching faculty, adhering to the course syllabus. These comprehensive plans outline the topics, recommended books, mode of delivery, and mapping of Course Outcomes (CO) and Program Outcomes (PO) for each unit.

  3. Course Material: The teaching faculty diligently prepares comprehensive course material for 5 units, ensuring meticulous referencing of page numbers from specific books for every topic covered. They strictly adhere to the syllabus, which is formally approved by the Head of the Department (HoD), ensuring thorough preparedness before the commencement of regular classes.

  4. Question Bank: The teaching faculty creates a comprehensive Question Bank comprising Cognitive Objectives (COs) and K-level mapping, consisting of 10 Part-A questions and 6 PartB questions for each unit.

  5. Video Link: The teaching faculty prepares a video link compilation unit-wise, following the course syllabus. These videos feature animated visuals to illustrate concepts effectively, providing a visual learning experience rather than theoretical explanations.

  6. Lab manual: The teaching faculty diligently prepares a comprehensive lab manual that includes detailed instructions and readings for all experiments, in accordance with the syllabus for the lab courses. This proactive approach ensures that students have access to essential information and guidance right from the beginning of the classes, promoting a smooth and efficient learning experience in the laboratory setting.

  7. Course Delivery:

The course delivery includes the following components:

  • Last class teaching topics revision: Begin the class by briefly reviewing the key concepts covered in the previous session, reinforcing students’ understanding and connecting it to the current topic.
  • Introduction of today’s class topics: Provide a clear and concise introduction to the new topics to be covered in the current class, outlining their significance and relevance to the overall course.
  • Uses and applications: Present real-world applications and uses of the concepts being taught, helping students comprehend the practical relevance of the subject matter.
  • Videos and explanation: Utilize audio-visual aids such as videos, animations, or demonstrations to enhance the understanding of complex concepts, complementing the explanations provided during the lecture.
  • Interactive discussion: Encourage active participation by facilitating discussions and inviting questions from students. Address their queries and engage in open dialogue to reinforce learning and foster a dynamic learning environment.

They diligently evaluate the students’ exam papers in accordance with the question papers and answer keys. After evaluation, they distribute the graded papers to the students and provide timely and constructive feedback to help them improve their performance. The evidence of this evaluation and the actions taken is documented and maintained in the course file.

  2. Students Attendance: Upon preparing the fortnight attendance report for students, the teaching faculty identifies students with low attendance percentages and promptly sends letters to their parents, emphasizing the importance of regular attendance and collaboration to support the student’s educational journey.

  3. Mentoring and Advising: Act as a mentor and academic advisor to students, offering guidance on academic and career-related matters. Help students identify their strengths and areas of improvement, guiding them towards personal and professional growth.

Tutors are responsible for maintaining the following documents:

  • Proctorial Card: This contains student personal details and records of their academic performance.
  • Master Attendance Register: Daily attendance of students is recorded in this register.
  • Call Register: Tutors make daily calls to parents to inform them about student absences and obtain the Head of Department’s signature.
  • Fee Collection: Tutors monitor the details of fee collections from students.
  • Online Courses Completion: Records of students’ completion of online courses from platforms like NPTEL and NASSCOM are maintained.
  • Student Leave Letters and Event Certificates: Tutors keep track of student leave letters and certificates obtained for participating in internal and external events.
  • Student Patent Filing and Paper Publication Details: Information related to student patent filings and paper publications is documented.

  4. Institutional Participation: Participate actively in departmental meetings, faculty development programs, and other college activities that contribute to the overall growth and reputation of the institution.

  5. Industry Collaboration: Establish and maintain connections with industry professionals and organizations to facilitate internships, projects, placements and Industry sponsored lab for students through MoUs. Promote industry-academia collaborations to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application.

  6. Adherence to Policies: Comply with the college’s rules, regulations, and academic policies, ensuring a smooth and efficient academic environment for both students and colleagues.

  7. Non-Academic Activity: For Regulation 2022, meticulous planning and organization of nonacademic activities on Saturdays enriches the students’ overall educational experience, fostering personal development, and promoting a balanced approach to learning and growth.

  8. Accreditation: Provide comprehensive assistance in all aspects of accreditation works, ensuring the institution meets the necessary criteria and standards for accreditation, and facilitating a smooth and successful accreditation process.

  9. Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

Every month, the teaching faculty submits the performance data for the following parameters to identify the best performer and facilitate institutional awards:

  • Professional Growth: Includes achievements in Paper, Patent, and Book publications, completion of Online Courses, and participation in Faculty Development Programs (FDP).
  • Tutor-Student Interaction: Involves tracking student awards/prizes, fees collection, and completion of Nasscom courses.
  • Teaching-Learning Process: Comprises Academic Audit marks, Peer review, and Exam marks to assess the effectiveness of the teaching methods.
  • Professional Bodies Activity: Records involvement and contributions to professional bodies.
  • Institution Building: Recognizes contributions to the institution through Awards,

Recognition, Innovations, Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), activities in the Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC), Events organization, Special responsibilities, and feedback from the Head of Department (HoD).

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in the relevant engineering discipline. A Ph.D. is desirable for higher academic positions.

We are looking for a well-organized, resourceful professor to join our excellent faculty. The professor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching a requisite number of graduate classes, assisting with the development of course material, supervising postgraduate students, regularly publishing journal articles, serving on committees, attending conferences, writing proposals for grants, delivering presentations, and handling other administrative duties.

To be successful as a professor, you should be able to balance teaching and research responsibilities. Outstanding professors are able to conduct independent research, accurately allocate resources, and provide subject-related and management advice to the faculty.

 

Professor Responsibilities :

  • Developing curricula and delivering course material.
  • Conducting research, fieldwork, and investigations, and writing up reports.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A Ph.D. in the relevant field.

  • 3-10 years of experience teaching in an academic setting.

  • Published articles and proven experience as an academic.

  • Strong teaching and mentoring skills.

  • Excellent presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • A sound understanding of and passion for subject matter.

  • Willingness to work long hours, and travel frequently.
